It’s that time of the week again where I drop some helpful gems on my blog! For those of you who are still contemplating which machine you should be purchasing, this one’s for you! This blog is going to review all of the specifics about the Singer Scholastic 5523 machine! As you may have seen in my Brother sewing machine reviews, I go over the machine details, maintenance, pros and cons!

The Singer Scholastic 5523 another machine that I love and has an essential place in my personal craft room! This sewing machine is heavy duty! First and foremost, I must mention that this machine was purchased through a dealer; so you won’t be able to find it on Amazon. If you’re interested in purchasing this machine, I highly recommend contacting Singer brand to find your local dealer who can assist with this purchase. The  Singer Scholastic 5523 is for a sewing school or people who are trying to do factory style work. 

Let’s jump right into the features of this machine. This machine is very solid and reassures me that it will sew my garments extremely well. I would highly recommend this machine for a beginner. Though it does not have a digital screen, it was made very straight forward. The knobs are easy to read, the manual explains everything you need to know. But for those who may want to skip reading the manual, here’s some more insight to some of the details this machine carries: 

• The top has a bobbin winder so whenever you run out of thread in your machine, you can wind it up top. 
• It also has a tension knob which helps with the tension of the thread. if you want to change that, you can turn from right to left. 
• For the needle position, you can change it; however most people like to sew with the needle in the center of the foot. 
• As far as the width of your stitch, this can be changed through the width. For example, to make a zig zag wider or thinner. 
• When staring straight forward at the  Singer Scholastic 5523 Machine, you’ll notice a large Length knob. This changes the length of your stitch. If you’re familiar with sewing you know that you can change the length of your stitch, if you turn this knob to the biggest number and it will create bigger stitches for when you’re basting something. You can also turn the knob to zero, to make your stitch shorter and a lot tinier.
• The large knob with the red S on it is for the types of stitching available on this machine. I will mention that they are very basic such as straight stitch, button holes, zig zag, along with a couple more fancy stitches. 
• Towards the bottom left of the machine, is where your bobbin is, along with a picture that shows you exactly how to enter your bobbin. 
• Right next to that area, you’ll find a helpful compartment area that you can open up and store your small scissors, your feet and any accessories so you can minimize any lost. 
• Conveniently, on the side panel of the  Singer Scholastic 5523 machine, there is a small cut and thread that helps you cut your thread when you’re done sewing.

I only have one small con about this machine rearing the needle. With this sewing machine not being digital, sometimes it is not always in the right position to use the threading system. I tend to fool around with the threading system so much that I end up putting the thread threw myself. 

In regards to maintenance of the Singer Scholastic 5523, I highly recommend reading your user manual. Some people oil their machines, while others choose not too however knowing the correct oil to use is absolute key! 

From beginner to highly experienced sewers, the  Singer Scholastic 5523 machine is a great choice or addition to your craft room. I know making such an investment in your hobby or business can be a well thought out process and hope this is going to help you make the best choice.
